Important Government Offices and Their Heads
Understanding Government Structure
The CMAT General Awareness section often tests your knowledge of Nepal's governance structure. Rather than just memorizing names, which change frequently, you should focus on understanding the roles and designations of constitutional and executive heads.
Key Executive and Legislative Roles
- Prime Minister: Head of the Executive. Appointed by the President.
- Speaker of the House of Representatives: Presides over the lower house of the Federal Parliament.
- Chairperson of the National Assembly: Presides over the upper house of the Federal Parliament.
- Chief Justice: Head of the Judiciary. Appointed by the President on the recommendation of the Constitutional Council.
Constitutional Bodies
These independent bodies are crucial for Nepal's democracy. In CMAT, you might be asked about their function or the process of appointment.
- Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA): The anti-corruption watchdog.
- Election Commission: Responsible for conducting elections.
- Office of the Auditor General: Audits the accounts of government offices.
- Public Service Commission (Lok Sewa Aayog): Responsible for conducting civil service exams.
Exam Tips
- Focus on the Role: Questions often ask "Who appoints the Chief Justice?" or "Who is the head of the Constitutional Council?" rather than just the person's name.
- Stay Updated: Always check official government websites for the current officeholders in the week leading up to the exam.
- Constitutional Council: Understand who sits on the Council (PM, Chief Justice, Speaker, etc.), as this is a frequent topic.
Practise these as timed MCQs to lock the pattern in.
