- Newton's Laws of Motion
- Description
Newton's Laws of Motion
Sir Isaac Newton formulated three fundamental laws of motion in his 1687 work Principia Mathematica.
Three Laws of Motion
- First Law (Law of Inertia): An object at rest stays at rest, and an object in motion stays in motion, unless acted upon by a net external force.
- Second Law: The net force acting on an object equals its mass multiplied by its acceleration. The formula is $F = ma$.
- Third Law: For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Applications & Other Theories
- Applications: Rocket propulsion (3rd law), vehicle braking (1st law), and weight calculations (2nd law).
- Law of Universal Gravitation: Newton also formulated the law $F = G \frac{m_1m_2}{r^2}$.
