Nepal's Climate Zones

Title
Nepal's Climate Zones
Description

Nepal features five major climate zones defined by altitude:

  • Tropical Terai (below $200\text{ m}$): Hot and humid.
  • Sub-tropical Middle Hills (200–$1,000\text{ m}$): Warm.
  • Temperate ($1,000\text{–}2,000\text{ m}$): Mild.
  • Sub-alpine ($2,000\text{–}3,000\text{ m}$): Cool.
  • Alpine (above $3,000\text{ m}$): Cold to arctic.

The monsoon (June–September) provides 80% of annual rainfall, primarily affecting the eastern hills. The rain shadow area north of the Himalayas (e.g., Mustang, Dolpo) exhibits semi-arid conditions.
